That's why the question isn't simply about using 10,000 km or 5,000 km oil.

It depends on your car's age, mileage, fuel type, driving conditions and even the quality & type of fuel you're using.
All these factors help determine the right service interval and the correct engine oil.
For example, your manufacturer may recommend a 0W-20 oil when the engine is new.
But on a high-mileage engine, a qualified mechanic may recommend a slightly thicker oil such as a 5W-30 if it's appropriate for that engine's condition.
It's not a rule, but sometimes it's the better choice.
